What is a lead magnet and how do I use one to get clients?

A lead magnet is something of value, such as a PDF guide, that a person gets in exchange for their name, email and phone number. It is much easier to get a form filled out for a lead magnet than to get someone to sign up for a service, pay for a subscription or start a trial, because the risk is low. The opt-in also gives you permission to keep marketing to the lead by email, text and phone.

What to offer: think about what attracts your ideal customer profile. Good lead magnets create curiosity and focus on results that hit the business's bottom line, such as sales, leads, appointments, revenue or jobs. For example, "how HVAC companies can boost revenue by 10%" works better than naming the exact problem you solve, because giving away too much lets the reader decide they do not need you. It can be a guide, a PDF, a checklist, a calculator or a case study of a past client. If you have a guarantee or typical results, that can be the lead magnet, such as a guide on how a business gets a specific result within ninety days. A good guide talks about the problem you solve and ends by saying you are the solution and how it works, so it acts as an ad for you. For example, for personal injury attorneys: how to preserve case value when clients skip their medical treatment. The AI assistant can help you create the guide.

The page: keep the lead magnet on its own short page with a simple form (name, email and phone; fewer fields is better), perhaps one section explaining what they get, and nothing distracting. Do not mix it into the page for your core offer, because two options on one page confuse people. You can also offer it in an exit intent popup in the website builder when a visitor is about to leave.

Sharing: post it as social media content, in groups and communities where your niche gathers, and in your outreach. Visitors who click through but do not fill out the form may still be identified by Visitor ID, and people who fill it out are leads.

Follow up: the form submission can trigger a workflow, for example an AI call or a text to you to call the lead. Follow up by email and phone to check they received it and offer a demo. A lead magnet you do not follow up on defeats its purpose.
